We are teaching you how to make your Valentine DIY felt envelope at home. The felt envelopes or felt pouches we created are for my girls' Girl Scouts as nice gifts for their upcoming trips. It was actually my girls' idea to create the envelope for the necklaces they made.
Collect felt sheets in the colors of your choice. Make sure you have a ruler, pencil, scissor, and a craft glue or thread and needle handy.
2. Measure and Mark:
Decide on the size of your envelope. We created 10cm by 7cm envelope using a 21cm by 11.5cm felt sheet.
We are using Red Wool Felt SheetRolls to cut a rectangle with a half-square shape as the flap to make it look cuter.
Use the ruler and pencil to mark the dimensions on the felt sheet. Draw the outline with the help of ruler. You might use a bowl or cup depending on the size of the envelope body to draw the half square shape.
3. Cut the Felt:
Use the scissor to cut along the marked lines. This will be the main body of your envelope.
We cheated by using our new craft tool - Cricut Maker 3. If you have this machine at home, it will save you so much time in cutting. Here is the SVG file you can download and use to cut this shape.
4. Sew the Stamp/Patch/Decoration:
Fold the felt along the cut lines to create the envelope shape. Use your pencil to mark where you want to put the patch or any decoration (ribbon, button, heart, etc.). NOTE: Do the sewing step first because after you close the envelope, it is going to be challenging to sew the patch.
5. Fold, Iron, and Glue or Stitch:
Fold the felt along the cut lines to create the envelope shape.
Iron it to make it flatter and easier to glue or sew.
Apply glue on the edges to secure the sides, leaving the top open.
To elevate the look, we suggest stitching the edges. We used sewing machine to stiches a line a round.
6. Put Button On:
We are using a press-on button. The button requires some additional effort. It will make opening and closing the envelope easier. You can do alternative options: glue a two-sided sticky patch or sew a button.
Personalize:
Consider personalizing the envelope by adding the recipient's name, a special message, or any other embellishments that make it unique.
We used a vinyl machine to create the name on a white sticker and press them on the felt.
Decorate:
Let your creativity shine by decorating the envelope. Add buttons, ribbons, or other felt shapes to enhance its aesthetic appeal. Glue these decorative elements securely.
Once you're satisfied with the design, allow the glue to dry completely. This ensures that the envelope holds together well.
Ta-Da!
